Cylinder Head for Industrial & Diesel Engines
Cylinder heads aren't something most shops stock casually, they take up shelf space and they're not cheap, but running an engine without a good one isn't an option either. We carry cylinder heads compatible with Yanmar products, bare castings and complete assemblies with valves already installed, and every listing carries an OEM cross-reference number so you're not guessing before you order.
What Is a Cylinder Head?
A cylinder head bolts to the top of the block and seals the top of each cylinder, with a head gasket doing the sealing work between the two surfaces. Combustion happens right up against it, so it takes the worst of the heat in the whole engine. Intake and exhaust ports run through it, valves open and close in it, and on most diesel engines the injector sits in a bore machined straight into the head.
As for cylinder head parts, there's more packed in there than people expect. Valves, valve seats, valve guides, valve springs, and on overhead cam engines the camshaft itself rides in the head. Add in glow plug bores on diesels, coolant passages threading around all of it, and head bolts torqued to a spec that matters more than almost anything else on the engine. Get the parts of cylinder head assemblies mixed up during a rebuild, valve seats swapped with the wrong guides for instance, and you'll be pulling it back off within a week.
How a Cylinder Head Works?
Function of cylinder head design comes down to two things: seal combustion in, let air, fuel, and exhaust move through on schedule. Every diesel cylinder head survives combustion temperatures cycle after cycle without flexing, cracking, or letting coolant find its way into a cylinder. Cylinder head function, stripped of the parts list, is really just that simple.
A cylinder head engine problem usually shows up as white exhaust smoke, coolant disappearing with no visible leak, or oil that's turned the color of a milkshake because coolant got into the crankcase. Overheating is the most common cause. Run a diesel hot enough for long enough and the head warps, the gasket lets go, and coolant starts mixing with oil or finding its way into a cylinder. A cracked head shows the same symptoms and usually needs replacing outright, resurfacing only works on a warp within spec.
Cylinder Head Brands & Compatibility
Fitment comes down to the engine model, not the equipment it's sitting in. Check the model stamped on the block, then confirm it against the compatible engine series listed on the product page, injector bore size and valve configuration vary enough between models that a head off the wrong engine won't bolt up clean even if it looks close.
Yanmar Cylinder Head
Current stock covers the 4TNE98 and 4TNE94-PD engine series, available either as a bare head or a complete assembly with valves already installed. Both show up in industrial and construction equipment built around those blocks. More models get added to the catalog as stock comes in, so check back or ask if a specific model isn't listed yet.
